i’ve been quite busy theses days, but I have a good reason.

Since spring 2011 i’m working at Downdays, both as a developer and editor. We ‘ve worked hard this summer to remake the Digimag.

It’s now an HTML5 publication, you can read it on your web browser anywhere, and especially on your smartphone and tablets!

But the best way to enjoy it is to download the iOs app on your iphone or ipad !

We will come out every two weeks with a new issue this winter, with the finests images of Europe Freeskiing ! I’m very happy to be part of this adventure, even if it’s representing shit loads of work. I’m in charge of all the development, and working as a french editor/photographer: it’s quite funny to be in this role now, after years of freelancing. I’m really happy to be involved directly in the production of a magazine. But i’m not alone, i’m working in collaboration with the german good old legend Klaus Polzer and the Italian talented photographer Alessandro Belluscio, and also Ben Burnett, Sebastian Huber, and many more freeski addict, working hard in a office at Innsbruck, and making this project reality .

I retrieve in BMX the esthetism of freesking, although the sport is different, Bmx riders are focused on style and spot originality.

One of these spring assignment was a photo event coverage for SoulBmx Magazine at the Massilia Bmx Race, the bmx racing french cup. I never shoot race bmx but nevermind, that was the perfect opportunity to visit Marseille. As I’m living now far away from my home region, it’s always a pleasure to come back and visit friends there. Marseille is also a very particular city with its own particular culture. Its surrounding offers many different activities: hiking, surf, funboarding (Carro is few km away from here ) … and also climbing in the Calanques (the french for rock inlet ? excuse my froggy english).

So I joined Guillaume, an old friend met in Chambery during my computer science studies. As me, he give up with IT jobs to consecrate his time to his passion.

Guillaume passion is climbing. He lives in Callelongue, a tiny fisher harbor few kilometers away from the “pointe rouge”, the south limit of Marseille. Callelongue is litteraly an haven of peace very close from the second french biggest city. It’s also a dream spot for climbers with thousand of climbing way just next to the village, with a splendid view on the mediterranean sea. So Guillaume offered me to visit the blue cave, a deep water spot, 5 minuts away from his house, with his neighbour and a transient canadian couchsurfer.

It’s late and as i need to sleep, I let the images speak for themselves and I hope they will give you the envy to visit this little piece of paradise. At least, I hope the visit will give you as much hapiness than me, Callelongue is the perfect sunday spot to get some fresh air after a long week of work.

While we were driving on the highway, near Butte – Mt, we saw an huge handrail on the side of the road. Our curiosity encouraged us to have a new pause in this city … and check for some street spot.

This city revealed it’s magic quickly: Butte is an miner city, made of picturesque buildings made with raw orange brick. Drillings derricks are standing in the middle of the town, between the early 20th century factories and the working class houses.

Butte also have snow and lot of possible hand rails, walls, bombdrop to do: Great ! Although we didn’t came here to do such spots, we scouted the town to find handrails and quickly fall under the charm of few handrails, in the Montana Tech university, near the highway or downtown. As the road killed us, we decided to get an good old Super8 Motel room for the night and scout more the next day.
But the motel room was enough for me this night so I decided to joined the heart of the city, trying to meet some locals.

That’s how I met William and Don in the “party palace”: a karaoké-pool club-pub … To be honest I don’t remember what William do with his life – he was drunk and his accent was quite hard to understand for a frenchy – but William, as 90% of the Americans I met during this trip, was very friendly to me. Above all, they were more friendly when they knew we were from France. I thought American peoples were angry against Frenchies due to Irak war …

Don is a drawer spending his time in this pub to paint scenes: he is the official drawer of the PartyPalace. William was pretty happy to be featured on his painting, next to the pool tables.

Last call was the time for me to go back to the motel, I was expecting a lot of the visit of Butte the next day. And I wasn’t disappointed ! On the morning Tom Barnier successfully killed an aluminium down-flat-down in Montana tech campus, under the eyes of a crowd of student.

Right after that, we went on the big handrail we saw next the highway. But it was cloudy and I wanted to shoot it at sunshine, so we went back in town and we finnaly got a new spot. But it was bound to happen : we were busted from the security guy of Montana tech …

So we went back to the highway handrail and wait for the sunshine. I’m pretty happy to have convinced the riders to stay: I have some goods pics and I hope you will see them in the press next year. I don’t know if the riders was really happy to ride a street spot this day instead of powder, but at least we did something different from driving all day long !

We finnaly quit Butte to join SaltLakeCity through Jackson Hole, were It didn’t snow much … blackcat was still following us so we decided to give up and went straight to SaltLake to take our flight back home … with problems with our f*cking crappy rental car.

2weeks is NOT enough to succeed a trip over the ocean, if you look for powder. I really want to travel for a longer time in the future, but at least 2 weeks was already a good break and although we did not found what we were looking for, I enjoyed rediscovering the American culture and people.

Finally back home, in the southern alps, we had some snow here but it’s seems that no one know that ! No one except the Collet Brothers who are in Vars actually. The FSBC spot hunt is never ending !
